I've always lived surrounded by books. From growing up around my Dad's old literature textbooks, to collections of novels as a teen, to my current to-be-read stack that is taking over my bedroom, books and stories inhabit my life. When I decided in 2002 to make Colorado my permanent home, I flew back to my parent's house in Oregon and loaded up two giant suitcases full of my books. I padded them carefully with ski thermals and socks, and dragged them all back to my tiny apartment at the T Lazy 7 outside of Aspen. Those books moved with me 6 times throughout the Roaring Fork Valley, until coming to rest in Carbondale in 2011.

 

Fast forward to 2022, and White River Books has been born out of my love of books and story-telling, and my deep belief that every town needs a bookshop. Stories connect us, twine us to a place, give us meaning within the mundane, and entertain us. My hope for White River Books is it becomes a place for Carbondale to access books, and a place to keep story-telling alive. Everyone is welcome to come in just as you are, to sit, browse, order books, find your next great read, and connect with something larger over stories.
